QED is a Level 2 EME supplier with 51% black woman ownership including 20% black woman military veteran ownership.

QED was established in 1998 in South Africa to develop specialised technology solutions for both Defence and Commercial sectors.

Our capability was further enhanced in 2018 with the ESD partnership agreement with multiple key role players in the Defence logistics industry.

Currently, QED is a key partner in the provision of Logistic Engineering Services for the new Hydrographic Survey Vessel for the South African Navy (Replacement of the SA Navy Hydrographic Capability Project).

The majority of the project logistic support services are now performed by QED personnel including:

  • Project Management;
  • Compilation of technical manuals;
  • Compilation of training material and presentation of training courses;
  • Logistic engineering;
  • Configuration Management.

Due to the successful execution of the training programmes on the Hydrographic Survey Vessel, QED has subsequently been contracted by STC-SA to develop and present “System specific and Maintainer training” on the new Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV) for Damen Shipyards.

In addition, QED has a rich history of successfully completing engineering projects including:

  • Obsolescence eradication of the Pilatus PC7 MK II simulator;
  • The upgrade of the Pilatus simulator into a networked configuration;
  • The upgrade of the Pilatus nose wheel test bench resulting in a 300% improvement in testing turnaround time;
  • The upgrade of the Rooikat armoured attack vehicle’s gearbox test bench including a computerised Man-Machine-Interface;
  • The upgrade of various numerically controlled manufacturing machines and other test benches at Air Support Units. QED was able to successfully upgrade the above systems at a fraction of the cost of replacement;
  • Development of Mission Planning Systems for the Rooivalk Combat Helicopter as well as the Aircrew Training System used for the training of Air Force Navigators;
  • Development of the Health-and-utilisation-management-system (HUMS) for the Agusta A109 Helicopter, with key partners.
